The author begins Chapter nine with a powerful emotional story regarding a 22 year old man who gets Escherichia coli from ordering a soft chicken taco at a Mexican restaurant. Chapter nine is titled,” What’s in the Meat”this chapter entails a story about how an individual named Lee Harding has dinner with his wife on Friday night and then becomes violently ill “An hour or so after leaving the restaurant, Harding began to experience severe abdominal cramps” then goes to the emergency room sent home told he had the flu then gets a knock at a door from the County Health Department telling him he has a “potentially lethal food borne pathogen”. In conclusion, the author shows the reader a picture of Lee Harding when he was a younger boy and he uses the picture to play on the reader’s emotional side. So, this writing strategy is a positive attempt to engage the reader to decide to make a change when eating fast food and evoke an emotional response from the reader. This particular story is powerful emotional story because it is based on a true story. As a reader, I started to ask myself this important question could this tragedy happen to me because I eat soft chicken tacos at Mexican restaurants all the time.
